The Departure

The Departure is a moniker for an event in Vaelorys’ history as well as the subsequent time period it led to. The Departure; was an event - shortly after The Cataclysm - where the Archons bid farewell to Vaelorys, and willingly raised a barrier that would prevent any-and-all Divine Beings from physically entering the Material Plane. This was done for the protection of Mortal society in an attempt to prevent anything like The Cataclysm happening again.

The Departure has since been used to also describe the indefinite time period following that event when Mortal civilization dealt with the fallout of the war between the Archons and the Illchors.

It is unclear how long The Departure lasted for as the historical records of the time are vague at best, however it is understood to be a time of struggle and hardship, as well as one of great Mortal triumph.

Without the direct and physical presence of the Gods, Mortal society fell into a cycle of conflict and conquest whilst fundamental resources - food, water, clothes, etc. - before settling down for longer and longer periods of peace.

Lex’Emplitus; an extremely religious city in Promythedran, became a bastion of society and played a key role in the restoration of other landmasses and societies in the months and years following. They became instrumental in passing down the wisdom of the Gods in order to restore order amongst the world.

The Departure ended somewhere in the past 1000-or-so years when the invention of a modern Calendar system was adopted around the world - referring to the then current day as β€œPost-Departure”
