Character Guide

Vaelorys is a World full of people of all different walks of life. Maybe you’re a keen to play a pious cleric in over their head after zealously charging to handle some wrongdoers, or a timid Wizard who’s been dragged along to help steal from the new bookstore that popped up in the fancy part of town. Perhaps you’re gunning to be a Mercenary hired to track down a dangerous criminal, or a retired adventurer pulled back into the life for just one… more… job…

Whatever it is - there’s almost certainly a time & place for it within Vaelorys!

Amazing! You’re halfway there. Let’s make sure you’re aware of the Source Material that is generally (check with your GM to be sure) allowed within Vaelorys. At it’s core - Vaelorys borrows heavily from the Critical Role lore; which itself is based on D&D’s lore - and as such, the D&D 2024 and 2014 Core Rules are all allowed. Additionally, select extra content is enabled to enhance the game overall.

That includes:

That gives you the 12 classes from 2024 (and technically 2014 D&D) as well as over 30 species (not-including Legacy versions) - plenty to flesh out your idea with. Make sure you discuss with your GM before making any final decisions.

It’s easy to put stats on a sheet and pick some abilities but it’s another thing entirely to bring that to life at the table - consider the following to help you roleplay:

  • Why did they become an adventurer? What happened in their past (or their present) to turn them towards such a dangerous life?
  • Is killing justified to them? Why/Why Not?
  • Even if they’re not a religious class - Vaelorys is a world stooped in Religion. Which of the Gods do they revere or worship - if any? If they don’t worship any God - ask yourself why that is and how they reconcile that in such a setting as Vaelorys.
  • Consider what tendencies they might have, based on events in their past?
    • Someone who got let their naivety get the better of them might be overly harsh to children because…
    • Maybe they have a tick whenever they see blood because…
    • What if they have a nasty habit of … that they picked up from … because …
