The Arcanic Age

The Arcanic Age denotes a period following The Fracture where Mortal civilization flourished to new heights - largely in part due to developments in Arcane Magic.

β€œThe world today is much brighter and more developed than it had been during either The Settlement or The Fracture. The convenience and applications of Arcane Magic have supplanted the Gods everywhere not named Lex’Emplitus.

It is only a matter of time; in my opinion, before we push the Archons out in the same manner that they pushed the Illchors out millennia ago…”
- Extract of an opinion piece about The Arcanic Age during the time period itself.

Mages predominantly ruled this time period through their intelligence and spells. There were a number of factions that controlled large swathes of the land and sky across Vaelorys.

The Arcanic Age came to an abrupt end when; supposedly, the arrogance of a single mage led to the release of the Illchors. It is debated by scholars and historians if this statement is apocryphal or not - but most agree that it is at least plausible due to the ascension of a Mortal woman to become The Fate-Cloaked Maiden during this time.

The release of the Illchors plunged Vaelorys into a darkness it hadn’t know since The Fracture - with millions of Mortals dying within the first month alone. This new era of ruin would come to be known as The Cataclysm.

The Arcanic Age is considered by many to be the pinnacle of Mortal society and is a time period to be aspired to, whilst others say it is a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of arrogance and hubris.
