The Dusk Plane Diaries

The Dusk Plane is one of the many Outer Planes - a realm eternally locked in the hour between Day and Night, where souls from the Inner Planes wind up through mechanisms unknown. The only common thread amongst all inhabitants is a sudden spike of bad dreams before their arrival in the Dusk Plane. The realm is beyond the reach of the Gods and exists outside the passage of time, making death permanent and aging a much slower process.

Despite the reduced aging, death is a very real concern for the poor souls trapped here as the Dusk Plane is home to nightmarish creatures that seem to lurk around every corner - sporadically forming out of the very sand that makes up the bulk of this realm, earning them the name of Sand Shades amongst locals.

Few remember much of their life before the Dusk Plane but those that do long for a way to return home, despite no record of anyone having done so successfully. That was until a recent expedition revealed records showing that the founder of the Collective Of Sand - Ious Woad - had done so over a millennia ago.

The discovery has been met by controversy as the nearby Collective Of Stone debate the legitimacy of the records, instead calling for the brave to aid them in taming the harsh environment in order to form a new world together.

You are all members of the Collective Of Sand and are attempting to uncover the means to return home. You are all considered β€œBlessed Souls” who have retained knowledge about your lives before arriving here.

Your mission; should you choose to accept it, will lead you into the heart of a Sand Shade den - following in the footsteps of Ious Woad himself - as you fend of Sand Shades of all varieties.

Consider the following for character ideas:

  • How old was your character when they first arrived in the Dusk Plane?
  • How long have they lived his since? Rougher is better
  • What types of nightmares did they experience before their arrival?
  • What was their life like before arrival?
  • How much do they remember of their past life?

Some other things to consider are:

  • Healing magic is also significantly less powerful here - so consider what injuries they could have sustained since arrival.
  • It is a constantly that state where the sun hasn’t fully set but it so low it’s not doing much - consider how that might affect your character’s demeanour.
